Retirees Picnic – August 24, 2022

Bring your grand-kids and/or your dog. Bring a chair or sit at a picnic table. Bring a sandwich or buy your lunch there. Wear your sunglasses and your shorts. On Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 12-3 we’ll be at Chinguacousy Park. We’ve reserved a picnic shelter ensuring that we have a spot to ourselves and are protected in the event of rain.  We’ll bring some snacks too.

It’s a chance to get outside, chat, and catch-up with fellow retirees. And it’s free!

Please advise ASAP if you are planning to join us.  See previous post for more detailed information.

How to sign-up for the Picnic:  Please tell us if you plan on attending, by Wednesday, August 10th. Be sure to include: 1) your name, 2) the number of adults and the number of children in your group, so we can ensure we have the appropriate size shelter and snacks for everyone.  You can indicate your intention to attend by either:

Picnic @ Chinguacousy Park – August 24, 2022

Are you ready for a summer picnic?  Join us on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 from 12-3 at Chinguacousy Park.  We’ve reserved a picnic shelter ensuring that we have a spot to ourselves and are protected in the event of rain.  Chinguacousy Park is located in Brampton (at Queen St. and Bramalea Rd.).

This event is fully sponsored by the club and you are invited to bring up to 4 guests (yes, you can bring your grand-children).  We’ll be providing some snacks and beverages, but you’re on your own for lunch.   There are concession stands on site where you can buy food, or you may choose to bring your own food.  Picnic benches are available, but you could bring your lawn chair if you prefer to sit out in the sun.

Organizers Brian and Susan have checked out the park and found many things to keep us busy. While there, you can sit and enjoy the company of fellow retirees, or wander and discover the features of the park.  Walk through any one of the three gardens, play mini golf, or show your metal on the fitness trail.  Your grand-kids, could take advantage of the wading pool, splash pad, petting zoo or maybe a pony ride.  These are just a sampling of the activities at the park.  Check the park’s website for more information.

Mike Nagata

Mike Nagata passed away on January 19, 2022 at the age of 94. Mike was born in Vancouver and was one of many brothers and sisters. Mike is survived by his sister and nieces and nephews.

After studying engineering at UofT, Mike joined CSA. During his long career he worked in various product groups and in several management roles. He had been the Lab Manager and was Director of the Lab when he retired. Mike retired in 1999 after 47 years of service.

Mike was involved in the design of the ’85 building, which was known to many of us as the “New Building”. After retirement he continued to use his skills doing audits for the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) Lab Accreditation Program, even auditing CSA!

Mike kept in touch with many of his former colleagues and is remembered as a great guy to talk to and work with.

The family has posted an obituary in the Toronto Star. Visit Mike’s Obituary.

A private funeral is planned.

Inspectors circa 1980s

Pack of wolves, murder of crows, litter of kittens … every group has a name. What should we call this group of inspectors? It certainly conjures up all sorts of memories. Are you in the photo? Do you recognize anyone? Do you know the date and occasion of the photo? Please share your thoughts.

Larry was hired in 1983 and retired in 2004. Many in Rexdale will know his daughter Pam and son-in-law Tim Grant.

You are welcome to post to his Tribute Wall through his obituary.

Betty White

Sadly CSA’s own Betty White passed away on January 17, 2021 at the age of 93. Betty retired around 1987. She had worked in Accounting and is remembered as the one who processed your expense accounts. Back in those days, expenses were paid out, on the spot, in cash.

Betty had been ill for some time and in her final years had moved from a retirement home into long-term care. No service will be held, but you can leave your condolences and memories of Betty through comments to this post.

Chung S. Yee

We are just hearing now about the passing of Chung S. (CS) Yee on February 18, 2021 at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife Anna. CS joined CSA in 1967 and was a team oriented, dedicated, dependable and respected certification engineer. He worked as a Senior Engineer in the Heating Appliance Group.

He was known as Yee by his many friends at CSA. After retirement Yee continued to keep in touch and get together with his colleagues and fellow retirees. He enjoyed attending retiree events.

A quiet family funeral was held due to the COVID situation and he was laid to rest in Vancouver where his son and family reside.
