2021 Christmas Luncheon – Save the Date

Santa’s elves are hard at work planning the 2021 Christmas Luncheon. Details are still sketchy, but we have a date: Wednesday, December 8, 2021 and location: The Weston Golf and Country Club.

We expect that COVID-19 rules will apply, limiting attendance, BUT that may change in weeks to come. If you aren’t fully vaccinated, please use this lead time to ensure that you’ve had both doses.

Details on the event and how to sign-up will follow in a few weeks.

Annual General Meeting on Zoom – October 25, 2021

The CSA Retirees’ Club usually holds an Annual General Meeting (AGM) following the CSA sponsored Annual Luncheon.  Last year, we held our first Zoom AGM. The future looks promising as Ontario continues to re-open and remove COVID-19 restrictions. But we’re not there yet. So, we’ve decided to hold our 2021 AGM once again through a Zoom session on Monday, October 25, 2021 at 2:00pm.  The meeting is expected to last a maximum of 1 hour.  Participation in the AGM is voluntary, but we look forward to your input.

How to Register for the AGM:  You must indicate your intention to participate by no later than 5pm on Saturday, October 23.  You can do so by either:

  • sending us an e-mail at csaretirees.info@gmail.com,
  • sending a message through the “Contact Us” page on this website,
  • or by submitting a “Comment” on this post.

Please be sure to include your name in the e-mail.  You will receive an invitation to the meeting by e-mail from Susan Morley prior to the event date.

Looking forward to “seeing” you soon.

Veni Christante

On September 26, 2021 Veni Christante passed away at the age of 93.

Veni had a long and illustrious career at CSA.  He was one of the early employees, and held employee #126. Veni told stories of those early days at CSA, housed in Strachan Building as part of Ontario Hydro and then at the old Planters Peanut Factory at Dufferin and Queen.  Veni worked as a technician who rose to the role of Corporate Secretary.  Amongst the earliest to reach 40 years of service, Veni designed the pin that only a few have earned.  He retired after 42 years at CSA in the early 90s and although many of our younger retirees joined after Veni retired, he was known to all.  He was friendly, a true gentleman and he never forgot your name.  He will be missed.

Veni designed the CSA logo for hockey helmets that shows a CSA on a puck with red for the Canadiens and blue for the Leafs.

Veni was a long time member of the CSA Retirees’ Club, serving as president.  He organized the annual trip to Stratford and instituted the tradition of the Christmas Luncheon originally held at The Old Mill.  Veni attended many retiree events and enjoyed mixing with his former colleagues, many of whom were good friends.

Predeceased by his wife, he is survived by his sons and their families. Visitation and funeral arrangements are scheduled for October 1, 2021. Please check Veni’s obituary on the Kane-Jerrett Funeral Home obituary page for his obituary and for information on how to attend the funeral.

Roman Krygiel passed on July 16, 2021 at the age of 95. He joined CSA in the early 1960’s and worked as a Senior Professional Electrical Engineer until his retirement in the mid 1980’s.

Roman’s obituary posted on the Turner & Porter website tells of his heroism during WWll as a member of the Polish Resistance Army and prisoner of war in Germany.

Please read his obituary where you can also leave your condolences for his family.

Joanne Forget – CSA HR

Staff at CSA were informed of the May 4, 2021 passing of Joanne Forget. Joanne was not a retiree, but recent retirees would likely have met Joanne who had been a Human Resources Manager in Toronto for the past seven years.

She is remembered as having a cheerful disposition and someone who delivered exceptional HR support.

At this time there is no online obituary.
