Fiddler on the Loose – June 14, 2022

Finally, after COVID has delayed our theatre outings, we’re back! The CSA Retirees Club invites you to join us on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at 2:00 for an afternoon of fun and merriment in Cambridge at the Hamilton Family Theatre Cambridge for a performance of Fiddler on the Loose

About the show: “Anchored by the extraordinary talents of fiddler and showman Jesse Grandmont, Fiddler on the Loose is a gregarious musical variety show that is sure to raise the roof!  With its stirring blend of music, dancing, comedy, and of course, fantastic fiddling, this lively revue features over 60 songs running the gamut of genres from country and bluegrass to Celtic, classical, pop, and more. The eclectic song list moves seamlessly through memorable tunes like “Dust in the Wind,” “Devil Went Down to Georgia,” “Snowbird,” “Misty,” “Take Me Home, Country Roads,” “Orange Blossom Special,” “King of the Road,” and many, many more. Don’t miss this high-energy musical extravaganza, but be warned – this show may contain scenes of gratuitous violins!”

The performance is offered in a “reduced capacity, proof of vaccination required” environment. At only $25 per person, tickets are sure to go fast.  Please indicate your interest in attending by sending payment to Susan Morley by May 14th. Please read through all the details by clicking “Continue reading” below.  Note: this is a drive-yourself event.

Mike Nagata

Mike Nagata passed away on January 19, 2022 at the age of 94. Mike was born in Vancouver and was one of many brothers and sisters. Mike is survived by his sister and nieces and nephews.

After studying engineering at UofT, Mike joined CSA. During his long career he worked in various product groups and in several management roles. He had been the Lab Manager and was Director of the Lab when he retired. Mike retired in 1999 after 47 years of service.

Mike was involved in the design of the ’85 building, which was known to many of us as the “New Building”. After retirement he continued to use his skills doing audits for the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) Lab Accreditation Program, even auditing CSA!

Mike kept in touch with many of his former colleagues and is remembered as a great guy to talk to and work with.

The family has posted an obituary in the Toronto Star. Visit Mike’s Obituary.

A private funeral is planned.

Inspectors circa 1980s

Sadly CSA’s own Betty White passed away on January 17, 2021 at the age of 93. Betty retired around 1987. She had worked in Accounting and is remembered as the one who processed your expense accounts. Back in those days, expenses were paid out, on the spot, in cash.

Betty had been ill for some time and in her final years had moved from a retirement home into long-term care. No service will be held, but you can leave your condolences and memories of Betty through comments to this post.
