Lunch at Wally’s – Tues March 10, 2026

Skip breakfast at home and save your appetite for Wally’s. You can opt for a decadent, late breakfast of Eggs Benedict, or something you’re not likely to make at home like fish and chips. Join us at lunchtime at Wally’s on Tuesday, March 10th at 11:30 am.

We meet for lunch at a restaurant in Rexdale on the 2nd Tuesday of every month, at 11:30 am.

Don’t know where Wally’s is? Although Wally’s address is 123 Rexdale Blvd., it’s actually on the east side of Kipling, south of Rexdale.  It’s behind (south) of the Royal Bank.  It’s accessible from Kipling or through the Shoppers Drug Mart (next to the bank on Rexdale Blvd.) parking lot.

CSA Retirees’ Club AGM – Recap

Many thanks to the people who participated in our March 6, 2025 AGM via Zoom. We were reporting on our October 2023 – September 2024 fiscal year. It was a small group, but we covered lots of ground.

Here are some notes from the meeting:

  • Terri Smith, Susan Morley and Daniel Barbini were renewed as directors for another 2 year term.
  • Mel Doig stepped down as director after being part of the executive for many years. THANKS MEL! Mel did a fabulous job organizing events (like the Grand River Lunch Cruise, Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and several others) and patiently produced minutes of our meetings.
  • Dave Zimmerman was appointed as a director of the Retirees’ Club.
  • We reviewed our finances and are in good stead to continue to hold and subsidize events for our members.
  • We held (or supported) 7 events in FY 23-24 with 216 attendees (members and guests).
    • EMBA XMAS Dinner & Dance
    • Weston XMAS Lunch
    • Chicago (the musical)
    • Mandarin Lunch
    • Formula 1 Exhibition
    • Banksy Art Exhibit
    • YYZ Airside Tour followed by lunch at Arizona’s
  • We continue to organize lunch on the 2nd Tuesday of the month at various restaurants with 8-18 people attending.
  • We’re currently planning our annual lunch at the Mandarin with a date to be announced soon. And we’ve already held (or supported) 4 events in FY 24-25
    • Come From Away (the musical)
    • EMBA XMAS Dinner & Dance
    • Weston XMAS Lunch
    • The Lion King (the musical)

Thanks to all who were able to join in on the meeting.

FESTI Tour – Pictures

Sixteen of us attended the tour of FESTI the Fire and Emergency Services Training Institute on July 5, 2023. We didn’t get to see the plane ablaze as in the photo above, but we got lots of great pictures of ourselves, the firefighters and the facilities. Check out the “EVENT PICTURES” tab on this website to see our photos. After the tour many of us went to Zet’s Restaurant on Airport Rd. No photos, but we had great food!

To find out more about FESTI check out the FESTI website.

Exciting Announcement re Zoom for 2021

Your Retiree Executive have just extended our Zoom subscription for the rest of the year.  This will allow us to continue to run Zoom Socials on a regular basis.

On January 13th, 15 people joined our Zoom Social, spending almost 2 hours sharing their views on various topics.  We even had 2 of our nonagenarians (that’s someone in their nineties) telling tales of CSA days of yore.  Did you know that some CSA staff were once housed in a former Planter’s Peanuts factory?  You needed to protect your lunch (think camping) as not all of the previous inhabitants had left.

Zoom is easy to use and requires little preparation.  To be able to use Zoom, you’ll need a smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone.  Don’t have a computer?  That’s okay, we have the ability for people to call in by phone.

Make sure that you are kept up-to-date by subscribing to this website.  To subscribe click on the “+ Follow” in the lower right-hand corner of this webpage.  You’ll be asked to provide your e-mail address.  You’ll receive an-mail whenever we post to the website.

Keep an eye out for an announcement on our February Zoom Social.
